This is a promotional item from the Rolls Royce Company Limited from the early 70's when it was all one big company. A relative of mine received this as a gift from the Chief Patent Officer at the time, Frank T Pickles who at the time was travelling internationally during the development of the RB211 engine, sadly part of the Rolls Royce Group's nemesis. For those of a technical persuasion the slide rule was made by Blundell and is marked with a greek Omega and the words Darmstadt and 603. It will calculate Logs, squares, cubes, sine and tan and more.
The slide is reversible with LogLog LL2 and LL3 scales on the reverse. Overall it is just 6 inches in length and has a handy 6 inch ruler on one edge. Blundell Rules Limited made these promotional items in England for a number of British companies. Never used, the slides are perfectly clean, the perspex is unscratched, slight scuffing on the real leather case is down to storage. An exceptionally fine sample with historical connections.
The item "Rolls Royce Engineers Slide Rule - provenance, historical connections, EXC" is in sale since Monday, July 30, 2018. This item is in the category "Collectables\Scientific Collectables\Engineering & Surveying". The seller is "aldo_ff" and is located in Petersfield.
